Fire crews have now brought a blaze at legendary Melbourne live venue The Palace under control, after a fire broke out in the building around 3pm AEST today (July 11).
The complex - which was closed despite fierce protest from fans mid-last month to make way for developers - has stood on the St Kilda beachfront for 35 years, and proved a popular haunt for thousands of artists. Everyone from Nirvana, Iggy Pop, Pixies and Foo Fighters to Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand have graced its stage.
